The Hebrew Free Loan Association of Houston will be hosting a fund raising event to update the community on activities undertaken throughout 2017 and the beginning of 2018, including the special work carried out because of Hurricane Harvey.
To add to the value of attending, HFLA has invited David Hagy to also update us on the progress being made with the exciting Texas Central Railroad project between Houston and Dallas.
Texas Central is a private company developing a new high-speed passenger rail system that will connect Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston using a proven, world-class technology that will provide a travel time of less than 90 minutes.
HFLA has been around since the 1930s. HFLA’s philosophy is to help those in need by giving them an interest-free loan instead of a charitable handout. This is considered the highest form of charity in Judaism because it maintains the dignity of the person looking for financial help by giving them an opportunity to pay back their confidential loan, rather than forcing him or her to be viewed as a burden on the community.
Since 1932, the Houston Hebrew Free Loan Association has provided emergency funding as well as micro-loans to business startups. The organization has expanded its range of services to include tuition assistance for Jewish day schools, college and camp, emergency travelers aid, loans for medical expenses, senior care, adoption or fertility treatment, and more.
HFLA has made loans for such needs as car repairs, outstanding bills, business startups, automobile purchases, tuition, avoiding eviction, furniture, moving expense, store inventory, legal fees, rent, fertility treatment, and credit card debt. Today, the organization is funded largely through individual donations.
The event will be taking place in Bellaire on Wednesday May 16th at 7.30pm. To find out more or to RSVP, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit https://www.hfla.net.
